For an Ajax system to comply with the EN 50131 requirements, it is necessary to configure some features. For correct setup, follow instructions in the article.
EN 50131 compiled features can be configured only in the latest versions of Ajax PRO apps:
- PRO Desktop;
- Ajax PRO: Tool for Engineers.
Hub settings
To comply with EN 50131, connect your Ajax system to the Central Monitoring Station (CMS) via Ajax Cloud.
Choose the hub from the list and go to the Settings menu → Service.
Delaying notifications of external power loss
To comply with the clause 8.6. Notification outputs of the EN 50131-1 standard, Ajax hubs provide the Delaying notifications of external power loss setting. You can configure the delay time (from 1 minute to 1 hour) to notify users if the hub has an external power failure.
Users won’t be notified if the external power is restored within the delay time.
The Delaying notifications of external power loss setting is available for hubs with OS Malevich 2.22 or higher.
Server Connection
For Grade 3 installations, set up Delay of Server Connection Failure Alarm and Hub–Server Polling Interval parameters in the Server Connection menu. Their values must be such that the time before sending a notification of loss of communication with the hub is less than 180 seconds. It is calculated using the formula:
3 × Hub–Server Polling Interval + Delay of Server Connection Failure Alarm.
For example, if both parameters are set to 40 seconds, the time for sending a notification about the connection loss between the hub and the server will be 160 seconds.
System Integrity Check
The System Integrity Check feature provides the status revision of security devices before arming. More information about this feature you can find in this article.
Restoration After Alarm
The Restoration After Alarm feature prevents arming the system if there is any alarm or malfunction. To arm the system, an authorized user or PRO must restore it.
You can select which alarms and malfunctions require the system restoration.
To comply with EN 50131 at Grade 3, only a PRO should have access to restore tamper alarms and malfunctions.
Two-stage arming
To arm the system according to EN 50131-1 standard, use the Two-stage arming feature:
- Go to:
- Hub → Settings → Service → Arming/disarming process.
- Go to Compliance with standard and select EN 50131, click Save.
- Enable the Two-stage arming toggle.
- Ensure that the Forbid arming with second stage device in arming incomplete state toggle is enabled.
- Set Arming completion timer, sec at a minimum time of 60 seconds.
- Select Second stage devices.
- Set Opening detector stabilization timer, sec from 1 to 5.
- Click Back to save settings.
Alarm Transmission Delay
With the Alarm Transmission Delay feature, it’s possible to postpone the alarm transmission to the monitoring station if the Delay When Entering has expired, but the user didn’t have enough time to disarm the system. When the delay expires, the system raises an alarm locally: it activates sirens only, but does not transmit the alarm to the monitoring station and other users. This provides the user with additional time to disarm the system, and the monitoring station won’t receive a false alarm.
According to EN 50131-1, the minimum duration of the alarm transmission delay should be 30 seconds.
How to set up the disarming process according to EN 50131
- In Ajax PRO app, go to:
- Hub → Settings → Service → Arming/Disarming Process
- Go to Compliance with standard and choose EN 50131, click Save.
- Set Alarm Transmission Delay from 30 to 60 seconds (with 5 second increments).
Alarm Transmission Delay starts only after the Delay When Entering has expired.
- Enable the Don’t send alarm if disarmed during the delay* option. When enabled, the system won’t send an alarm if it is disarmed while the alarm transmission delay lasts.
- Click Back to save settings.
* To comply with the SSF 1014 standard Edition 6, the Don’t send alarm if disarmed during the delay option, should be disabled.
Jeweller/Fibra polling interval
How often the hub communicates with devices and how fast a connection loss is detected depends on the hub—detector polling interval. It can be configured in the Jeweller or Jeweller/Fibra hub menu.
The time before sending a message regarding the loss of connection between the hub and the device are calculated using the following formula:
Detector ping Interval × Number of missed pings to determine connection failure.
To comply with the EN 50131-1 standard, this time should be less than 20 minutes or equal to it for Grade 2 and 100 seconds for Grade 3.
To achieve 100 seconds, we recommend set Detector ping interval, sec to 24 seconds, and Number of missed pings to determine connection failure to 4.
Restriction on similar events
To comply with the clause 8.10 Event recording of the EN 50131-1 standard, the number of events from the similar source, must be restricted from 3 to 10 during the system is armed or disarmed.
To make the corresponding settings:
- Go to:
- Hub → Settings → Service → Devices auto deactivation.
- Configure the By number of similar events setting from 3 to 10.
- Click Back to save settings.
LED indication
Configure the hub’s LED indication in accordance with EN 50131-1.
- Go to:
- Hub → Settings → Service → LED indication
- Choose British Disco.
- Click Back to save settings.

Intrusion devices settings
Set up Delay When Entering and Delay When Leaving for all intrusion devices (e.g. motion detectors, opening detectors, glass break detectors, etc.).
To comply with EN 50131-1 the Delay When Entering value should be less than 45 seconds or equal to it.
How to set up delays in Ajax system
- Go to the Devices tab.
- Select the required device or detector on which you want to set the alarm delay.
- Go to its settings by clicking the gear icon .
- Go to Operatiing mode and select Entry/Exit.
- Specify the Delay When Entering and the Delay When Leaving duration from 5 to 120 seconds.
- Go to Alert with a siren and enable the toggle for the corresponding event (depends on the device):
- If motion detected.
- If opening detected.
- If glass break detected, etc.
- Click Back to save settings.
Adjust the siren settings when using Delay When Entering/Leaving.
Keypad settings
Enable and configure the Unauthorized Access Auto-Lock feature for all keypads in the Ajax system. If this feature is enabled and a wrong code is entered three times within one minute, the keypad will be locked for the time specified in its settings. During this time, the hub will ignore all codes, while simultaneously informing users of the security system about an attempt to guess the code.
A user or PRO with the admin rights can unlock the keypad in the app. Also, unlocking occurs automatically after the lock time specified in the settings expires.
How to set up Unauthorized Access Auto-Lock
- Go to the Devices tab.
- Select the keypad.
- Go to the keypad settings by clicking the gear icon .
- Enable the Unauthorized Access Auto-Lock toggle.
- Select the keypad lock time in the Auto-lock Time, min menu: from 3 to 180 minutes.
According to EN 50131-3, Auto-Lock Time must be at least 90 seconds.
In the Ajax app, Auto-Lock Time is 3 minutes by default. - Click Back to save settings.
- Repeat steps from 1 to 6 for all keypads in the system.
For the Grade 3 installations, only codes containing 5 or 6 digits are allowed for keypads.
Siren settings
How to set up the volume for indoor siren
- Go to the Devices tab.
- Select the indoor siren.
- Go to the siren settings by clicking the gear icon .
- Set the Alarm Volume level: Loud or Very Loud.
According to EN 50131-4, for the internal warning device loudness, “Minimum” means that the acoustic output level must be at least 80 dB. This loudness level equals the Loud alarm volume in the Ajax system.
- Click Back to save settings.
- Repeat steps from 1 to 5 for all indoor sirens in the system.
How to set up the volume for outdoor siren
- Go to the Devices tab.
- Select the outdoor siren.
- Go to the siren settings by clicking the gear icon .
- Set the Alarm Volume level: Loud or Very Loud.
According to EN 50131-4, for the external warning device loudness, “Minimum” means that the acoustic output must be at least 100 dB. This loudness level equals the Loud alarm volume in the Ajax system.
- Click Back to save settings.
- Repeat steps from 1 to 5 for all outdoor sirens in the system.
How to set up the Audible Alarm feature
According to the EN 50131-1 standard, the siren installed outside the supervised premise must notify about an alarm with an audible signal. This requirement refers only to sirens assigned to the group or system in the armed mode.
- Go to the Devices tab and choose:
- Hub → Settings → Service → Sounds and Alerts
- Enable the If lid of hub or any detector is open toggle.
- Go to the Devices tab.
- Select the siren.
- Go to the siren settings by clicking the gear icon .
- Go to the Audible Alarm menu item and select Only when armed option.
- Repeat steps from 3 to 6 for all the sirens on which you want to activate an Audible Alarm feature.
How to set up the sirens’ audible alarm duration
According to the EN 50131-3 standard, sirens’ duration has to be from 90 seconds to 15 minutes.
- Go to the Devices tab.
- Select the siren.
- Go to its settings by clicking the gear icon .
- Set the Alarm Duration from 1 min 30 sec or more.
- Click Back to save settings.
- Repeat steps from 1 to 5 for all sirens on which you want to activate an Audible Alarm feature.
Siren beeps settings
- Go to the Devices tab.
- Select the siren.
- Go to its settings by clicking the gear icon .
- Go to the Beeps Settings menu.
- Enable the Entry Delays and Exit Delays toggles in the Beep on delays section.
- Set the Beep Volume.
- Click Back to save settings.
- Repeat steps from 1 to 7 for all sirens on which you want to enable the notifications.
Please note that using Permanent Deactivation can make your system compliant with EN 50131 at a lower security grade.
Backup batteries requirements
For the EN 50131 Grade 3 installations, system standby working time should be at least 60 hours. Please use a Fibra power supply calculator to check the maximum current consumption from Hub Hybrid.
