Button S Jeweller user manual

Updated

Button S Jeweller is a wireless panic button with accidental press protection. The device has additional modes: it can control automation devices and mute fire alarms.

Button S operates within an Ajax system, connected to the hub via the protected Jeweller protocol. The communication range in an open space is up to 1,300 meters.

This product line is developed for projects. Only accredited Ajax Systems partners can sell, install, and administer Superior products.

Superior, Fibra, and Baseline product lines are mutually compatible. This opens up numerous possibilities for building systems of any configuration.

Operating principle

Button S Jeweller is a wireless panic button that operates in one of three modes: Panic, Control, or Mute Fire Alarm. When the button is pressed, it transmits an alarm to users and to the security company’s CMS (central monitoring station). In Control mode, Button S allows you to control Ajax automation devices with a short or long button press.

In Panic mode, Button S can operate as a panic button and signal about a threat, notify of the need for auxiliary help, or inform about the intrusion, fire, gas alarm, or water leak. You can select the type of alarm in the button settings. The text of alarm notifications depends on the selected type and the event codes transmitted to the CMS.

When connecting Button S via the radio signal range extender, Button S does not automatically switch between the radio networks of the radio signal extender and the hub. You can manually assign Button S to another hub or range extender in the app.

Button S has the Battery charge auto-check option. When enabled, the system once a day checks the battery state of the button. If the auto-check is disabled, the battery state updates only when the device is pressed.

The feature is available when the button is connected to the hub with firmware version OS Malevich 2.17 or higher.

Use cases

Panic mode

In the Panic button mode, Button S informs the security, calls for help, or alerts of an emergency by activating sirens and sending other users a notification in the app. In the Button S settings, you can select one type of alarm out of eight:

  • Intrusion.
  • Fire.
  • Auxiliary alarm.
  • Panic button.
  • Gas alarm.
  • Malfunction.
  • Leakage.
  • Custom (not sent to the security company monitoring station).

The type of alarm determines the event code sent to the CMS and the notification text received by the user. This ensures an accurate response to the threat.

Note that in Panic mode, pressing Button S will raise an alarm regardless of the system security mode.

If Button S is pressed, an alarm can also run an automation scenario.

The button can be installed on a flat surface or carried around. To install on a flat surface (for example, under the table), secure Button S with double-sided adhesive tape. To carry Button S on the strap: attach the strap to Button S using the mounting hole in the Button S enclosure.

Control mode

Button S can be used to control automation devices. In Control mode, the Button S has two pressing options: short and long (when the button is pressed for over 3 seconds). These pressings can activate one or more automation devices: Relay, WallSwitch, WaterStop, LightSwitch, or Socket.

To bind an automation device action to a long or short press of Button S:

  1. Open the Ajax app and go to the Devices tab.
  2. Select Button S in the list of devices and go to settings by clicking the gear icon .
  3. Select the Control mode in the Operating mode section. Click on the actual Button S device to save the changes.
  4. Go to the Scenarios menu. Click Create Scenario if you are creating a scenario for the first time, or Add Scenario if scenarios have already been created in the system.
  5. Select a pressing option to run the scenario: Short press or Long press.
  6. Select the automation device to execute the action.
  7. Enter the Scenario Name and specify the Device Action to be executed by pressing Button S:
    • Switch on.
    • Switch off.
    • Switch the state.

The Device Action setting is unavailable when configuring a scenario for the automation devices operating in pulse mode. During the scenario execution, such devices will close/open the contacts for a set time. The operating mode and pulse duration are set in the automation device settings.

  8. Click Save. The scenario will appear in the list of device scenarios.

Mute Fire Alarm mode

By pressing Button S, Interconnected Fire Detectors Alarm can be muted (if the corresponding operating mode of the button is selected). The reaction of the system to pressing a button depends on the state of the system:

  • Interconnected Fire Detectors Alarm has already propagated — by the first press of Button S, all fire detectors’ sirens are muted, except for those that registered the alarm. Pressing the button again mutes the remaining detectors.
  • The interconnected alarms delay time continues — the siren of the triggered Ajax fire detector is muted by pressing.

Adding to the system

Button S is incompatible with Hub, third-party security central panels, and ocBridge Plus and uartBridge integration modules.

To connect Button S to the hub, the button must be located at the same secured facility as the system (within the range of the hub radio network). For the button to work via the ReX or ReX 2 radio signal range extender, you must first add the button to the hub, then connect it to ReX or ReX 2 in the settings of the range extender.

The hub and the device operating at different radio frequencies are incompatible. The radio-frequency range of the device may vary by region. We recommend purchasing and using Ajax devices in the same region. You can check the range of operating radio frequencies with the technical support service.

Before adding a device

  1. Install an Ajax PRO app.
  2. Create an account if you don’t have one.
  3. Create space, adjust the necessary settings, and create at least one virtual room.
  4. Add a compatible hub to the space and adjust the necessary settings.
  5. Ensure the hub is switched on and has internet access via Ethernet, Wi-Fi and/or mobile network.
  6. Ensure the space is disarmed, and the hub does not start updates by checking its status in the Ajax app.

This product line is developed for projects. Only accredited Ajax Systems partners can install, and administer Superior products.

Connecting to the hub

  1. Open the Ajax PRO app. Select the space where you want to add the button.
  2. Go to the Devices tab and click Add Device.
  3. Name the button, scan, or type in the QR code (placed on the button and the package box), and select a room and a group (if Group mode is enabled).
  4. Press Add.
  5. Hold the button for 7 seconds. When Button S is added, the LEDs will flash green once.

Note that if the maximum number of devices has already been added to the hub (depending on the hub model), you will be notified when you try to add a new one.

The button connected to the hub will appear in the list of hub devices in the Ajax app.

Button S works with one hub. When connected to a new hub, the button stops sending events to the old one. When added to a new hub, the button is not removed from the device list of the old hub. This must be done through the Ajax app.

How to mount Button S

To mount Button S on a surface (e.g. under a table), use Holder.

ajax button
  1. Choose a location to install Holder.
  2. Press the button to test whether the commands can reach the hub. If not, select another location or use a radio signal range extender.

When connecting Button S via the radio signal range extender, note that Button S does not automatically switch between the radio networks of the radio signal extender and the hub. You can manually assign Button S to another hub or range extender in the app.

  3. Fix Holder on the surface using the bundled screws or double-sided adhesive tape.
  4. Put Button S into the holder.

Please note that Holder is sold separately.

How to carry Button S

The button is convenient to carry thanks to a special hole in its enclosure. It can be worn on the wrist, around the neck, or on a key ring.

Button S has an IP55 protection rating. This means that the device enclosure is protected from dust and splashes. Tight buttons are recessed into the enclosure and software algorithm helps to avoid accidental pressing.

Maintenance

Clean the Button S enclosure from dust, cobwebs and other contaminants as they appear. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning appliances.

Do not use substances containing alcohol, acetone, petrol and other active solvents to clean Button S.

The pre-installed battery provides up to 5 years of Button S operation in normal use (one press per day). More frequent use may reduce battery life. You can check the battery level in Button S states in the Ajax app.

The pre-installed battery is sensitive to low temperatures. If the device is cooled significantly, the battery level indicator in the app may show incorrect values until the device becomes warmer.

The battery level value updates automatically once a day if the battery charge auto-check option is enabled. If the auto-check is disabled, the battery state updates only when the button is pressed. When the battery has run down, the user will receive a notification in the Ajax app, and the LED indicator will smoothly light up red and go out each time the button is pressed.
