12V PSU for NVR

Power supply unit for NVR operation on a low-voltage power source

FAQ

The power consumption of Ajax NVR mostly depends on the hard disk consumption.

To calculate the operation time of a video recorder from an external battery, use external battery life calculator. To calculate it manually, multiply the battery capacity by its voltage and divide it by the average power consumption of the device (refer to the table).

For instance, if Ajax NVR with HDD hard disk installed is connected to a 12 V⎓, 40 Ah battery, its operation time will be the following:

(40 Ah × 12 V) ÷ 5.2 W ≈ 92 hours

The values in the table are valid for default video recorder settings.

To power a video recorder from an external battery, you need to use 12V PSU for NVR.

Configuration Average power consumption
Without a hard disk 1.7 W
With SSD hard disk 2.5 W
With HDD hard disk 5.2 W

The battery life of a video recorder when operating from a power supply unit depends on the following parameters:

  • Hard disk type;
  • Battery voltage and capacity;
  • Ambient temperature (depends on the type and model of a battery);
  • Number of cameras that simultaneously stream video.

You can connect any battery with an operating voltage of 8–16 V⎓ to Ajax NVR using 12V PSU for NVR.

For long battery life, we recommend using lead-acid, lithium, and nickel-metal hydride batteries. Zinc-air alkaline batteries are not recommended.

To prevent critical discharge of batteries without built-in control and protection boards, enable the operating mode in the voltage range of 12.1-16 V⎓. To do this, install a jumper on the 12V PSU for NVR board. Depending on the operating mode, the voltage is:

Parameter Without an installed jumper With an installed jumper
Turn-on threshold when the voltage rises 8 V⎓ ±3% 12.1 V⎓ ±3%
Turn-off threshold when the voltage drops 6.65 V⎓ ±3% 10.6 V⎓ ±3%
Maximum permissible supply voltage 16 V⎓ 16 V⎓

You can calculate the approximate battery life using the external battery life calculator.
