Testing smoke detectors with professional equipment is required to confirm they operate properly and comply with EN 54 requirements. EN 54-certified Ajax smoke detectors can be tested using the Solo 332 aerosol dispenser, which simulates smoke to check the device’s response.
This guide covers step-by-step instructions for functional testing of the following Ajax detectors:
Before starting any work on the fire detection and alarm system, notify all relevant persons that the system or part of it will undergo maintenance and be temporarily out of service.
Make sure these persons are informed once the system is fully operational again.
First, prepare Solo 332 for testing:
- Unscrew the red cup, remove the cap from the aerosol can, and place it inside the red cup.
- Insert the red cup back into the aerosol can and turn it clockwise until the aerosol starts to release. Unscrew the red cup slightly and wait until the aerosol stops releasing.
- Insert Solo 332 into the Solo access pole.
To test an EN 54-certified Ajax smoke detector using Solo 332:
-
- Raise Solo 332 and place the detector inside the transparent cup at the top of the unit.
- Gently push upwards for no longer than 1 second to release a puff of smoke.
- Repeat this step every 10 seconds for up to 1 minute until the smoke detector triggers. When the alarm is activated, remove the cup to allow the particles to disperse.
