What is DORI distance?

Updated

The acronym DORI stands for Detection, Observation, Recognition, and Identification — standardized criteria that define the levels of detail a surveillance camera can provide at a specific distance, based on pixel density.

  • Detection: The image quality is sufficient for detecting a person or vehicle within the scene.
  • Observation: The image quality provides enough detail to observe characteristic features, such as clothing or shape.
  • Recognition: The image quality is sufficient to recognize whether a person or vehicle in the image is someone or something the viewer has seen before.
  • Identification: The image quality is sufficient to identify both the person and vehicles.
