Exporting an archive from an Ajax NVR via USB

Updated

Exporting an archive from an Ajax NVR via USB enables users to download videos locally to a connected storage device without Ajax apps or an internet connection.

System requirements

All Ajax NVRs with HDMI output, running firmware version 2.547 or later, support exporting video recordings to an external storage device via the USB port.

An Ajax video recorder can export an archive to a connected storage device, such as an HDD/SSD or a USB flash drive. HDD and SSD drives must be connected to the USB port via a special adapter and require an external power supply. The following storage device file systems are supported: FAT32, exFAT, and ext4.

Use an external power supply if the storage device requires more power to operate than the USB port can provide.

Operating principle

Ajax NVRs with HDMI output can export video recordings to an external storage device connected to the USB port. This allows users to download videos directly from the video recorder connected to the display via HDMI. No Ajax apps or internet connection are required.

Only local users and users with a cloud account who have the rights to view and download videos from the archive can export video recordings via USB.

When an external storage device is connected to the video recorder via USB, you can perform the following actions in the selected camera’s video player:

  • Select the storage device you want to use if multiple devices are connected to the video recorder.
  • Navigate between the folders on the storage device.
  • Manage data on the storage device, such as creating folders and deleting folders or files.
  • Format the storage device (to the exFAT file system).

Video recordings downloaded from an Ajax NVR have an Ajax digital signature, which verifies the integrity of the exported video. To verify the authenticity of downloaded video recordings, use the Ajax Media Player tool.

Exporting an archive via USB

To export a video recording via USB:

  1. Connect an external storage device to the NVR’s USB port.
  2. Log in to the NVR using a display connected via the HDMI output.
  3. Select the required camera.
  4. Click to go to the camera archive.
  5. Find the required video segment on the timeline, place the cursor over it, and click .
  6. Select a storage device if more than one is connected, set the path where the video segment should be saved on the selected storage device, and click Next.
  7. Drag the frames of the selected video segment to the timeline or set the Starting on and Ending on dates and times in the download menu to adjust the segment duration.

You can download a video segment lasting from 3 seconds to 24 hours.

  8. Configure the video and audio settings by toggling the corresponding options in the download menu.
  9. Click Download.

Once the download has started, it runs in the background, allowing you to continue working with the video wall. You can also select the next video segment to download, which will be queued until the previous download is complete.

To check the download progress, click in the upper right corner of the screen to open the download manager. This menu displays the following:

  • Downloads in progress
  • Downloads in queue
  • Successfully downloaded files
  • Download errors

In the download manager, you can cancel the in-progress download at any time before it is complete.

Note that your download will be queued if another user is currently downloading video recordings via an Ajax app. In this case, your download will start once the other user’s download is complete.
