Operating principle
Superior ReX G3 Jeweller extends the system radio communication range, allowing Ajax devices to be installed at a greater distance from the hub. Superior ReX G3 Jeweller communicates with the hub using radio technology (Jeweller and Wings protocols) or via Ethernet cable if the devices are within the same network.
Superior ReX G3 Jeweller receives signals from the hub, transmits them to the connected devices, and sends signals from the devices to the hub. The hub polls the range extender with a frequency of 12 to 300 seconds. The polling interval depends on the settings and is 36 seconds by default. Superior ReX G3 Jeweller polls all connected devices with the same frequency.
Regardless of the settings, all alarms are delivered in less than 0.3 seconds.
The communication range between Superior ReX G3 Jeweller and the connected device is limited by the device’s radio signal range. It is provided in the device’s technical specifications available on the website and in the user manual.
If the device loses communication with the range extender, it does not automatically connect to another range extender or hub.
Jeweller and Wings communication protocols
The range extender uses Jeweller radio technology to transmit alarms and events, while Wings is used to transmit photos. These are wireless data protocols that provide fast and reliable two-way communication between the hub, the range extender, and system devices connected to the range extender.
To control communication with system devices and view their states, a user or PRO with admin rights can configure the device polling interval from 12 to 300 seconds in an Ajax app.
Encrypted communication
The communication between Superior ReX G3 Jeweller and a hub and between Superior ReX G3 Jeweller and devices is protected by AES-128-GCM, a symmetric encryption scheme that ensures data confidentiality and integrity. The scheme uses a 128-bit encryption key to protect data and applies Galois/Counter Mode (GCM) to authenticate each message. This means that all sensitive data in the message is encrypted, and each message includes a unique authentication tag allowing the system to check that the data has not been modified during transmission. The system can reliably detect tampering and reject forged or altered messages, providing robust protection against both passive and active attacks. The AES-128-GCM encryption ensures secure communication between the device and hub, as well as reliable system and data protection.
Frequency hopping
To comply with the Grade 3 requirements, Superior ReX G3 Jeweller uses frequency hopping for radio communication with the hub and devices. With this method, the hub and devices added to it change their operating frequency according to a defined pattern. The hopping sequence covers a defined set of channels within the operating bands, and devices switch frequencies synchronously with the hub. Even if some channels are affected by jamming, messages can be transmitted successfully via other channels. Frequency hopping improves the system’s reliability and performance and ensures its resistance to intentional interference and jamming attempts.
Frequency hopping does not cause delays or pauses during radio communication and does not reduce the data transfer speed. If range extenders are added to the system, the frequency hopping is used for all radio communications: “device ↔ range extender” and “range extender ↔ hub”.
The system uses frequency hopping for radio communication only if all wireless devices support this method.
If at least one device added to the system does not support frequency hopping, the hub and all devices switch to the operating frequencies of that device and do not use frequency hopping for radio communication.
Connection via Ethernet
Superior ReX G3 Jeweller supports connection to the hub via radio protocols and Ethernet. With the cable connection, a single Ajax system can cover sites such as an office center with underground parking, a metal hangar, or a warehouse complex consisting of several large buildings. Ethernet can be the only communication channel or work in parallel with Jeweller and Wings. If Superior ReX G3 Jeweller connects to the hub via both Ethernet and radio communication channels, Ethernet is prioritized.
To communicate via Ethernet, the hub and Superior ReX G3 Jeweller must be connected to the same network through a router, which is needed to assign an IP address to the range extender. The network to which Superior ReX G3 Jeweller connects must allow broadcast queries and have an open 4269 port for all types of traffic.
Connecting Superior ReX G3 Jeweller directly to the hub via an Ethernet cable is not provided.
Superior ReX G3 Jeweller can work with both static and dynamic IP addresses. If the range extender cannot establish an Ethernet connection with the hub, the Superior ReX G3 Jeweller states will display a malfunction. For convenience, the MAC address of the range extender is also available in the error details, which can be used to locate and resolve the problem.
The system sends a communication loss notification in two cases: if the hub completely loses connection with the range extender, and if the hub loses connection with the range extender via the photo transmission channel. If communication is lost only via Jeweller or only via Wings (when Ethernet is connected), no notification is sent.
Support for photo verification
Detectors with support for photo verification can connect to Superior ReX G3 Jeweller. The range extender can transmit not only events and alarms but also photos taken by such detectors.
Photo delivery time via the range extender depends on the communication channel with the hub, the detector type, and the image resolution.

Number of range extenders and devices that can be added to the system
Up to five range extenders can be added to the hub. It does not matter exactly what type of range extender is used: ReX Jeweller, ReX 2 Jeweller, or Superior ReX G3 Jeweller. They can be added to the system in any combination within the hub limits.
Superior ReX G3 Jeweller can only be added to the hub directly. Connection to another range extender is not provided.
Superior ReX G3 Jeweller does not increase the number of devices added to the hub. The maximum number of devices connected to Superior ReX G3 Jeweller depends on the hub model.
Sending events to the monitoring station
An Ajax system can transmit alarms to the Ajax PRO Desktop monitoring app and the central monitoring station (CMS) in the formats of SurGard (Contact ID), SIA (DC-09), ADEMCO 685, and other protocols.

Functionality testing
Superior ReX G3 Jeweller functionality tests do not start immediately, but no later than after one device polling interval (36 seconds by default). You can change this polling interval in the Jeweller or Jeweller/Fibra menu in the hub settings.
To run a test, in an Ajax app:
- Select the space if you have several of them.
- Go to the Devices

- Select one of the available tests:
Selecting the installation site
When choosing where to place Superior ReX G3 Jeweller, consider the parameters that affect its operation:
- Jeweller signal strength.
- Wings signal strength.
- The distance between the device and the hub.
Consider the signal strength between the hub and the range extender, as well as between the range extender and all devices connected to it.
Locate Superior ReX G3 Jeweller in a place with stable Jeweller and Wings signal strength (2–3 bars in the Ajax app). When choosing an installation location, consider the distance between the range extender and the hub. You should also check if there are any obstacles between the devices that could interfere with the radio signal, such as walls, intermediate floors, or large objects.
Superior ReX G3 Jeweller should be placed between the hub and a device with a weak signal. The range extender does not amplify the radio signal, so installing it near the hub or a device with a signal level of 1 or 0 bars will not produce the desired result. Our Radio communication range calculator will help you roughly calculate the signal level at the installation site.
Check the Jeweller and Wings signal strength at the installation site. If the signal strength is low (a single bar), we cannot guarantee the stable operation of the system. At the very least, relocate the device as repositioning even by 8 inches can significantly improve the signal reception.
If there is no stable signal level (2–3 bars) via Jeweller and Wings between the range extender and a hub at the installation site, use Ethernet as a main communication channel. This allows you to install range extenders in basements, metal hangars, and other places where there is no radio signal.
Ethernet can be the only communication channel or work in parallel with radio protocols. Connecting via cable and radio protocols will increase the reliability and fault tolerance of the system. If the range extender connects to the hub via both Ethernet and radio communication channels, Ethernet is prioritized.
Superior ReX G3 Jeweller should be hidden from direct view. This will help reduce the likelihood of sabotage or jamming. Also, keep in mind that the device is intended for indoor installation only.
Where not to install Superior ReX G3 Jeweller
- Outdoors. This could damage the device.
- Near the metal objects and mirrors. They can cause attenuation or shielding of the radio signal. This could result in the loss of connection between the range extender, the hub, and Ajax devices. If it is necessary to install in such condition, use ExternalAntenna to overcome obstacles of the signal.
- In places with high levels of radio interference. This could result in the loss of connection between the range extender, the hub, and wireless Ajax devices or false notifications about security system jamming. If necessary, use ExternalAntenna to move the reception spot.
- Inside premises with temperature and humidity beyond the permissible limits. This could result in a failure of the control panel.
- Less than 3 ft away from the router and power cables. This could result in the loss of connection between the range extender, the hub, and wireless devices.
- Less than 3 ft away from devices. This could result in the loss of connection between the range extender, the hub, and wireless devices.
- In places with low or unstable signal strength if Ethernet is not used as a main communication channel. This could result in the loss of connection with the hub or devices connected to the range extender.
Installation
Before installation, make sure that you have selected the optimal location for the device and that it complies with the requirements of this manual.
When installing and operating the device, follow the general electrical safety rules for using electrical appliances and the requirements of electrical safety regulations.
To install Superior ReX G3 Jeweller:
- Prepare the place for running cables by carefully breaking off the perforated part of the Superior ReX G3 Jeweller enclosure.
- Run power and Ethernet cables, as well as cables from ExternalAntenna (if necessary), into the enclosure through the prepared cable entry.
- Secure the enclosure to a surface at the selected installation place with the provided screws using all fixing points. One of them is located in the perforated part above the tamper button, which triggers if any attempt is made to detach the enclosure.
- If necessary, connect ExternalAntenna to the appropriate communication port.
Before installation, make sure you read the ExternalAntenna user manual.
- Install the cover.
- Put the range extender on the SmartBracket mounting panel and secure it with the provided screws.
Do not turn the range extender upside down when installing it vertically (for instance, on a wall). When the device is mounted correctly, the Ajax logo can be read horizontally.
Securing the range extender to the SmartBracket mounting panel with screws prevents any accidental displacement of the device and minimizes the risk of device theft.
If the range extender is securely fixed, any attempt to remove it will trigger the tamper button, and the system will send a notification.
Maintenance
Regularly check the functioning of Superior ReX G3 Jeweller and connected devices. The optimal frequency of checks is once every three months. Clean the device enclosure from dust, cobwebs, and other contaminants as they emerge. Use soft, dry wipes suitable for equipment maintenance.
Do not use substances that contain alcohol, acetone, gasoline, and other active solvents to clean the device.
