What is anti-masking and how its implemented in the Ajax outdoor detectors

Updated

To gain entry into an object protected by an outdoor alarm system unnoticed, intruders sabotage motion detectors in the first place. As soon as the security system is disarmed, they penetrate the territory and block the view of motion detectors, i.e. mask them.

To protect the security system from this type of sabotage, outdoor detectors are equipped with anti-masking systems. The most advanced anti-masking systems respond to all typical tricks: placing obstacles in front of the sensors, painting the body or covering it with a cloth.

Indoor motion detectors feature anti-masking systems on rare occasions. They are used in parallel with other types of detectors (e.g., window opening or glass breaking detectors), therefore if sabotaged, they do not allow for invisible penetration.

MotionProtect Outdoor Jeweller

The anti-masking protection system of MotionProtect Outdoor Jeweller detector includes three infrared sensors.

MotionProtect Outdoor Jeweller is protected from all cases of masking:

  • when an obstacle is placed in front of one or both detector lenses
  • when one or both detector lenses are painted over or something is stuck over them

And to ensure maximum protection for masking sensors of the outdoor detector from rain and snow, additionally we have designed a special visor — Hood for MotionProtect Outdoor Jeweller.

It takes from 2 to 130 seconds to detect a masking attempt of MotionProtect Outdoor Jeweller, depending on the security mode and the type of masking.

With the Anti-masking option enabled, the detector reacts to masking regardless of whether the security system is armed or not.

MotionCam Outdoor Jeweller and MotionCam Outdoor (PhOD) Jeweller

The masking sensors of MotionCam Outdoor Jeweller and MotionCam Outdoor (PhOD) Jeweller — wireless motion detectors with a camera — are located at the edges of the Fresnel lens.

MotionCam Outdoor Jeweller and MotionCam Outdoor (PhOD) Jeweller detects the following types of masking:

  • Obstacle in front of the detector lens at a distance of up to 10 centimeters (the limit distance depends on the type of material).
  • Painting over the detector lens.
  • Sticking over the detector lens.

Depending on the security mode and the masking type, it takes 7 to 180 seconds to detect masking of MotionCam Outdoor Jeweller and MotionCam Outdoor (PhOD) Jeweller.

With the Anti-masking option enabled, the detector reacts to masking regardless of whether the security system is armed or not.

To protect the MotionCam Outdoor Jeweller and MotionCam Outdoor (PhOD) Jeweller masking sensors, a special hood is provided in the kit.

DualCurtain Outdoor Jeweller

Both sides of the DualCurtain Outdoor Jeweller wireless bidirectional motion detector are equipped with masking sensors.

DualCurtain Outdoor Jeweller detects the following types of masking:

  • Obstacle in front of the detector lens at a distance of up to 10 centimeters (depends on the material).
  • Painting over the lenses or the detector’s side.
  • Taping over the lenses or the detector’s side.

Depending on the security mode and the type of masking, it takes 7 to 180 seconds to detect masking of DualCurtain Outdoor Jeweller.

With the Anti-masking option enabled, the detector reacts to masking regardless of whether the security system is armed or not.

Curtain Outdoor Jeweller

The masking sensor of Curtain Outdoor Jeweller is located on the right hand of the motion detector lens.

The device’s anti-masking system detects the following types of masking of IR motion sensors:

  • An obstacle in front of the detector’s lens at a distance of up to 5 cm. The maximum distance depends on the material.
  • Painting over the detector’s lenses.
  • Taping the detector’s lenses.

The system notifies users and the security company’s monitoring station about masking. The maximum masking detection time is 180 s (depending on the obstacle type and the distance to it).

If the Anti-masking feature is enabled, it is always active and works regardless of the security mode.
