How to install DomeCam Mini

Posted on

Ensuring the correct installation of an Ajax camera is crucial for efficient motion detection and object recognition. Thanks to its design, DomeCam Mini is easy to install and configure to meet any requirements. In this article, we’ll guide you through achieving the best camera performance.

How to configure the camera lens position

We recommend keeping the camera enclosure as centered as possible. Position the lens between the infrared LEDs to ensure the highest image quality and even lighting in the frame.

You can adjust the camera angle by rotating the lens enclosure, which is particularly useful if the camera was not initially mounted at the correct angle.

To configure the camera lens position, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the faceted lens.
  2. Remove the screws holding the protective cover with the bundled hexagon key (Ø 2.5 mm).
  3. Loosen the two screws holding the lens enclosure with a screwdriver.
  4. Position the camera level with the horizon. Use the 90° marker to identify the horizon and the 0° marker to indicate the frame bottom.

  5. Tighten the two screws holding the camera lens enclosure. Replace the protective cover and tighten the screws.

To minimize stray light, adjust the lens angle relative to the camera enclosure. Avoid tilting the lens excessively toward the enclosure, as this may result in highlights at the edges of the frame in the night mode.

How to install DomeCam Mini on a wall

The preferred place to install DomeCam Mini is on the ceiling. If ceiling installation is not possible, the camera can be placed on a wall. In this case, ensure the correct angle is set. Rotate the lens within the effective range of the IR backlight.

During wall installation, ensure:

  • The “AJAX” logo on the camera enclosure faces downwards, aligning with the IR backlight direction.
  • The camera lens is rotated 180° inside the enclosure to align the image.

We do not recommend installing DomeCam Mini outdoors on a wall due to possible precipitation on the dome, which can reduce IR backlight efficiency.

How to prevent fogging of the camera lens

How to prevent stray light

DomeCam Mini should not be installed in certain locations to avoid potential image quality issues. To prevent stray light in the night mode, do not install the camera:

  • Near a lighting appliance, such as a lamp or its accessories.
  • Above or near large objects, even if they are not directly within the frame, as large objects may reflect significant amounts of IR light.
  • Close to a corner of a wall.
