What a residential fire alarm system is and how It works

Updated

Residential fire alarm system is an Ajax system feature that defines user and device rights to silence interconnected fire detectors alarm.

If the feature is enabled, users can silence fire alarms of triggered detectors only in the groups they have access to. Button, KeyPad, KeyPad Plus — alarms only of those fire detectors in the same group.

The feature is useful for objects that consist of several facilities and are protected by a single hub. E.g., for multi-apartment complexes, each apartment is a group in which at least one fire detector is installed. In this case, users can respond to the alarms of their groups without silencing the alarms of other groups.

The feature is available for Hub Plus, Hub 2, Hub 2 Plus, and Hub Hybrid on OS Malevich 2.12 and higher.

How the “Residential fire alarm system” function works

The function can be enabled if the interconnected fire detectors alarm and group mode are activated on a hub.

The function’s operation depends on whether the interconnected fire detectors alarm propagation delay is set and whether the interconnected alarm has had time to propagate to the fire detectors of the security system.

The interconnected fire detectors alarm propagation delay is set, but the delay time is not out.

In this case, the siren of the triggered detector will signal an alarm. Sirens of other fire detectors of the system are not activated. All users of the system are notified with the name and the room of the triggered detector.

Propagation of the interconnected alarm can be postponed for 10 minutes:

  • By pressing the sensor button of the triggered detector.
  • In the Ajax app. This can be done by the administrator or a user with access to the group in which the triggered detector is located.
  • With the Button in the fire alarm muting mode. Button must be attached to the same group as the triggered detector.
  • With the functional button KeyPad, KeyPad Plus (in fire alarm muting mode.) The keypad must be in the same group as the triggered detector.

The interconnected fire detectors alarm propagation delay is not set or the delay time ran out

When the interconnected alarm of fire detectors is enabled, within 60 seconds after a threat is detected by one of the fire detectors, all fire detectors in the system will signal the alarm with the built-in siren. All users of the system are notified with the name and the room of the triggered detector.

A security company, a user, or a PRO with administrator rights can mute the propagation of the interconnected alarm. Users without administrator rights can silence sirens of individual detectors:

  • By pressing the sensor button of the fire detector. In this case, only the siren of this detector turns off.
  • In the Ajax app. This can be done by the administrator or a user with access to the group in which the triggered detector is located.
An inactive icon is displayed in front of the detector if the user has no rights to mute the device

Note that silencing the siren does not cancel the interconnected fire detectors alarm. Only a security company, a user, or a PRO with administrator rights can cancel a interconnected alarm in the Ajax app. A user without administrator rights will receive a notification but will not be able to cancel the interconnected alarm.

The Mute interconnected fire detectors alarm button switches off the sirens of those fire detectors to which the interconnected fire detectors alarm has spread but which were not the cause of its triggering. The Mute All Detectors button mutes absolutely all activated detector sirens.

How to enable the feature

The feature can be enabled by a security company, a user, or a PRO with administrator rights. Make sure that the group mode is activated on the hub and the interconnected fire detectors alarm function is enabled.

To switch on the fire notification system in the Ajax app:

  1. Select the necessary hub if you have several of them or if you are using the PRO app.
  2. Go to the Devices tab.
  3. Select a hub (at the top of the list of devices).
  4. Go to Settings by clicking on the gear icon .
  5. Select the Service item.
  6. Go to the Settings of Fire Detectors menu.
  7. Activate the Residential fire alarm system feature.
